Designing for Emotion: Chapter 3
This week in my PR Publications class, I was asked to read the third chapter of our text, Designing for Emotion. This chapter focused on personality.
I really liked the idea of making the viewer feel like there was a human in front of the computer instead of a computer in front of a human. People tend to respond better when they feel engaged, and nothing is quite as engaging as human interaction.
I did not like the example with all of the unicorns and rainbows. I mean, I like Adventure Time as much as the next 12 year old, but I just don’t think that the personality of the site fit the actual site. If I wanted to build a portfolio, I would most definitely use something that had a more professional personality. After all, professional would be what I wanted to go for.
Overall, personality is extremely important, but if personality does not fit, it can lead users astray. In other words, use it smartly and good will follow.
