Designing for Emotion-Chapter 4

One thing I agreed with in this chapter is how important surprise is to a design. Surprise is important because it pushes us to create unique designs that will make the customer excited to read our website or look at our handout. We live in a world where people are given an excess of information, so in order to break through the clutter we must create designs that are eye catching and original. I also liked how the book elaborated on the fact that surprises should not just be limited to online interaction and that they should be incorporated from the moment the customer orders something to the moment the product arrives in their mailbox.

One thing I disagreed with in the chapter was the emphasis this chapter puts on priming. While I believe that priming can help change the way people feel about a brand, I think having good customer service and unique designs can make a greater impact. By providing the customer with a good experience (i.e. easy website use, good Q & A , etc.) they are more likely to have a positive outlook on something.
