Designing for Emotion Chapter 4
One thing that I agreed with in Chapter 4 of Designing for Emotion was on page 47 that said, “A moment of surprise compresses emotion into a split second, making our reaction more intense, and creating a strong imprint on our memory.” The best and most unexpected surprises (like birthday celebrations) always leave the longest lasting memories in our brains. The same goes for the worst and most unexpected surprises that we did NOT plan on. These feelings that you are left with from these unexpected experiences will always be with you.
One thing that I disagreed with in Chapter 4 of Designing for Emotion was on page 52 that said, “Aside from being the right thing to do, surprising people with kindness and individual attention can help a business achieve success.” Although I do think that it is important to show kindness and individual attention, it does not always help a business (or an individual) achieve success. There are many times that companies do the right thing but do not get credit for it. Many big time corporations and companies may be volunteering or helping out the community behind the scenes but may not receive any recognition or achieve business success by these acts of kindness.
