Designing for Emotion Chapter 4
In Designing for Emotion Chapter 4, I agreed with the concepts about the effect of emotional designs. It talked about surprise and anticipation and how those play a role in the designs we react to. Reading this chapter made me realize how much of an impact patterns and simple elements play in the overall way we feel about a page.
Another thing that stuck out to me in this chapter was the part that talked about the effect of wording to users. The example was a Twitter update that appeared to users as “You may” rather than “You must.” The effect of one word being changed entirely impacted the reaction of Twitter users. Instead of being frustrated with Twitter for telling them what to do, they were excited about the “opportunity” to update Twitter and happy with its new features.
