Designing for Emotion: Chapter 4 Response
This week in my PR Publications class, we were asked to pick a Fortune 500 company to make our newsletter publication for as well as read chapter 4 in Designing for Emotion.
Chapter 4 primarily focused on achieving different connections of emotions with your designs such as surprise, anticipation, priming, delight and others. These emotions can help your website dramatically and help engage your customer.
One of the things that I agreed with from this chapter was regarding the surprise, delight and priming emotions. The author discusses how these emotions are powerful tools when engaging people on your website. Personally, I feel like when I am surprised that I will continue to read more, and when I am delighted by something, I am likely to keep doing it. These are the reasons as to why I agree with the author that these emotions are powerful tools.
One of the things that I disagreed with from this chapter was the anticipation emotion. I feel like this emotion may work better for certain websites, but not all of them. I feel like some people may like anticipation and others may not.
Additionally, here is my “dummy” newsletter that I have been working on! There are no pictures on it, so it’s a tad boring. Basically where there is empty space, there should be a picture.
