Designing for Emotion Chapter 5
I actually read the whole book for Designing for Emotions, but I decided to do my blog over Chapter 5 entitled Overcoming Obstacles because the title itself is very pertinent to what I have been going through this summer semester.
“Walk onto a used car lot, and your spidey-sense will tingle when the salesman approaches you with a pre-planned pitch. You can recognize a disingenuous brand trying to sell you a product that seems too good to be true. We can smell bullshit a mile away (Walter, Designing for Emotion).”
This quote speaks volumes because since my car broke down 2 months ago I have been in search for a car, and for the last two weeks I have been fed countless pre-planned pitches from car salesmen- who in my opinion are the worst.
Anyways, I absolutely agree that it is hard to try and convince your audience that your brand is right for them or that the product is beneficial to whatever need they desire to us your product for. You are going up against older brands who have already established a name for themselves or other new and upcoming brands. Persuasion is a very hard skill to develop because you do not want to deceitful nor dishonest to your audience and feed them “bullshit” about your company or product, yet, you still have to convince them to buy it.
