Designing for Emotion – Chapter 5
This chapter was a little bit different than the rest for me. I think that it brought out the most skepticism I’ve had since reading Design for Emotion, which I am reading for my public relations publications class.
In this chapter, there was some that I agreed with and quite a bit that I disagreed with. We’ll start with the good news. I agree with the idea that an interface holds the ability to affect the gut of the consumer. I think Mint is a great example of the concept because as a user, looking at the interface, I feel secure and as if it looks similar to a banking website.
However, I disagree with the idea of the motives of the chapter and what it is saying about how to approach advertising and public relations in concern to consumers. I think it may be accurate to what is currently going on, but I think that it is wrong to view the job as conning someone into something. I think the job is to make people believe in something – to show them to why.
