Designing for Emotion Chapter 5
Oh Professor Croom, giving us total freedom for what chapter we want to read and write on this week. Chronological is the only way I work, so here goes Chapter 5: Overcoming Obstacles.
Walters makes the point in this chapter that humans are instinctual beings, distrustful of new brands and services. He writes that, “As designers, we’re in a unique position to help users follow their gut instincts.” I completely agree with him that typography, color, and other design elements can help sway me on a website or a service online. I would trust a site more if it had information and looked the part. Saying I would choose a site for instinct over reason, however, I do not agree with. However clean or beautiful a site may be, if there was any sign of false information or errors, I would be immediately clicking out– regardless of the design.
