Designing for Emotion – Chapter 6

Chapter 6 in Designing for Emotion was one of great teaching. I am reading the book for my public relations publications class, and I think this chapter perfectly explains the intersection of design and crisis communication in the public relations world.

In the example of Flickr, it is explained how to go about a crisis that includes the face of it and the action of it. I agree that the initial wording is crucial to the public relations of the issue. When users opened Flickr and saw a light-hearted message that let them know the site was down, the immediate gut feeling might have been frustration but not rage. Additionally, the coloring activity was genius and showed the users that they were the first focus of the company.

I didn’t disagree with anything in this chapter.
