Designing For Emotion chp 2

The title of this chapter, designing for humans, really caught me off guard. I think it might have been the thought that we wouldn’t ever design for anything other than humans, which isn’t necessarily true.

I’m currently studying evolution in my anthropology class and so I found the section about studying human evolutionary psychology particularly interesting. The whole idea of loving baby faces so that parents wouldn’t kill their children is fascinating to me. This concept can be applied to design, according to X, by using characters and icons that mimic the big eyes, small noses, and cute factor that we identify with babies.

Random, but I also found the fact that Zebra’s contrast helps them blend in super interesting too, because i never knew that. I didn’t really agree with his hypothesis that contrast in design helps things blend in, or maybe I didn’t fully understand his point. Especially because so many websites now adays are so crowded with ads and extraneous information that it’s difficult to focus.
