Designing For Humans
This post will detail my thoughts on the second chapter of the book Designing For Emotion.
This section talked about designing for humans who encompass so many different opinions and personality types. I liked the point the author made when they said “human nature is reflected in every aspect of design.” They also had different kinds of research to backup this idea.
For example, many different characters like Mickey Mouse are modeled off of babies to convey affection and cuteness from humans. This is something I had never really thought about before and I will now look at the design in cartoons a little differently.
I myself have noticed that Pinterest, Twitter, etc. have negated having a home page just like Tumblr did and the sites just skip directly to the signing up process. I really do like the design of Tumblr and agree that it is unique and interesting.
However, I’m not a fan of Ricardo Mestre’s website/portfolio. The look of it seems a bit unprofessional to me. I like that it’s unique and different but it gives me an immature vibe. I don’t necessarily agree that he has an effectively designed website but I agree with the author when he said that design aesthetics influence usability.
