Direct Mailer Final Reflection

For this assignment in my PR Publications course at OU, I was asked to create two direct mailers to two different target audiences. I chose to target women between the ages of 17-22 for my first direct mailer, to try to get them to join OU Panhellenic. My second target audience was the parents of these women, to try to get them to encourage their daughters to go Greek. I created two different direct mailers, each telling them to visit the Panhellenic website. I was nervous about this assignment at first because I had never really worked on a direct mailer, and my skills in Photoshop were not very good.

After I finished creating my designs, I was pretty happy. I had gotten use to most of the tools within the program, and I am satisfied with my finished products. Although I know I have a lot more to learn when it comes to creating designs with Adobe apps, I think I have definitely improved since first starting this class. As of right now, I think I prefer InDesign over Photoshop, probably because I feel more comfortable with those tools. Photoshop can get a little confusing at some times with all of the different layers, but I know with practice I will become a master of them!

If I were to start this project over again, I would probably try to get better quality images for the direct mailers. Since I had limited time, I was not able to contact the correct people to get the original images, and therefore had to take them from the website. Taking images directly from a website can distort the resolution a bit, so that is definitely something I know could be improved within my designs. Overall, I am happy with my designs, and I cannot wait to see what project we do next!
