Final Direct Mailers Reflection

This week we finished our mailers and were asked to reflect on the whole process of creating them. I created a mailer for a prospective student of Gaylord College and one for parents who are OU alumni.

Because of my work experience with Recruitment Services I am familiar with sending out direct mailers, but have never actually created one. I was excited to be able to design them and to learn more about Photoshop through the process. I felt that I responded well throughout the process. I enjoyed creating the mailers and feel that I know  a lot more about Photoshop now.  I asked for feedback on my mailers, made some necessary changes and am overall happy with the final products. I think my experience with Recruitment Services is what really drew me to this assignment and really interested me in it.

I definitely feel way more confident with both InDesign and Photoshop after all of the assignments we have done in this class. I like the flexibility that InDesign offers (and Photoshop doesn’t) with typography. Depending on the project, sometimes I like the layer aspect of Photoshop and that you have to select a particular layer in order to do anything with it and sometimes I like the way that InDesign works without layers. I don’t necessarily like one more than the other – it just depends on the assignment.

If I were to start over I may choose a different target audience because I found prospective Gaylord students to be a little bit difficult. However, I am happy with what I created. The final drafts are below.
