First Design Project Reflection
Wow, I can’t believe we are done with this project! Over the past few weeks, my PR Publications class at OU has researched a company, revised our designs multiple times, and gave feedback to classmates. The end result? A business card and letterhead for the organization we chose!
I selected The Odyssey as my company because I am the Social Media Director for the OU Campus Odyssey. I already had some knowledge on this company, which helped me to have a good idea of what type of design would fit them. The Odyssey is based online, and the website has a very contemporary and modern look. To keep with their theme, I kept my designs simple and sleek as well.
I am very happy with my final products. I feel like they go well together, and that if someone were to compare my designs with the website, they would say it matches well. Going into this assignment, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to create something I actually liked, for usually the image in my head does not look as good on paper. However, I found that I was able to pick up the Adobe InDesign skills pretty quickly, which helped me to create my products how I wanted.
Since The Odyssey is based online, I do not think either of my items would be of much use to the company unless the employees at the national offices used them. I am excited to be able to start creating designs for myself though, and to start putting my skills to work. I know they will be very helpful to me in the future when I am actually working in the public relations industry.
To future students, I would recommend watching as many tutorial videos as possible about the Adobe programs because they really do help. They definitely taught me things that I didn’t even know existed, and I will continue to watch tutorials so that I can keep improving my skills.
