From the ground up

In my lifetime, I have owned, created and started five different blogs. This is number six, and the first one that I will whole heartedly commit to.

An intro to who I am: My name is Jessica Anderson, but everyone calls me Jess. I currently live in Norman, Oklahoma where I study public relations at the University of Oklahoma. I’m originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and am a huge proponent of not only Tulsa but the entire state of Oklahoma as a whole. It has its flaws, but it sure is quaint and sweet. You’ll never find another place quite like it. I’m an only child, my favorite color is white, my favorite food is all and I love to travel. My passions range from politics to shelter dogs to cooking to my bleeding heart obsession with music, which is going to be the crux of this here blog post.

To say that my love affair with music is similar to that which the protagonist couple in a romantic comedy has would be a good comparative start. I started playing piano when I was four years old at the Janell Whitby School of Music, but my love of music started much earlier than that. There are videos of me in a car seat at age two singing along to late 90s chart toppers and dancing like a fool; I think I’ve been addicted to good tunes ever since.

Throughout my life, the plan was always to pursue music, but as college approached my senior year of high school, I realized that my passion for music didn’t necessarily need to translate directly into my professional life. I have a deep seeded love for reading and writing in every form, which eventually led me to choosing this major, this college and this professional pathway.

Despite choosing a major outside of music, I continue to pursue my passions in college through shows, writing music, practicing and playing with other people that have been bitten by the music bug that bit me such a long time ago.

The point of all this to say, I believe that ones passions, if they are actually passions, seep and pour into everything about them; their speech, their relationships and in this instance, their public relations publications blog; what an exciting semester ahead.

Here’s what I’m listening to right now:
