Fun and Games (and College)

So I can’t remember the last time I got to play games in class. I also can’t remember the last time I got to play computer games in class. It was probably elementary school…maybe middle school. I’m not sure because I’m getting old and that part of my life is a huge blur. But today in PR pubs (which is a college class, I might remind you) we got to play games!!!!

It was actually part of today’s assignment which was supposed to familiarize us with different kinds of typography. For this assignment, we were required to play three out of the five games mentioned in the assignment. The first one I played was called “Shoot the Serif.” Cute name, right?! In this game, our cursor looked like what you might see if you were to look through the scope of a rifle and with that we were supposed to “shoot” the letters that looked like serif font (some examples of a serif font would be Times New Romans, Garamond, or Cambria). The more I played this game the more I felt like I was at the eye doctor for a check up. In the words of Jimmy Fallon…EEEWWWW!!

The second game I played was called Poster Letters, which required me to name the movie poster each letter belonged to. I quickly learned that I’m not that familiar with movie posters which means I probably need to watch more movies.

And the last game I played was called Kern Type (kerning refers to the spacing between each letter). And look!! I got one 100% right!!!

So that’s just a snippet of today’s class! One last thing I would add is that our instructor played some great music while we played our games (Ben Rector, Matt Kearney, Parachute…yeah, be jealous) so overall a great day in the PR pubs world!
