I Made Some More Things!
The past few weeks in PR Publications I was challenged to create two direct mailers about OU for two separate target audiences. I decided to target high school senior girls who had been accepted to OU and had been very involved in high school, as well as parents of incoming freshmen who may be worried about their kids moving away from home.
I found this challenge daunting, because colleges use so many different direct mailers already that it’s difficult to stand out and create a new design. It was also difficult because I’m still definitely not a Photoshop or InDesign master (or even an apprentice), so I had to create mailers that could be made with my limited design skill set.
Overall, I’m happy with my direct mailers. For the first mailer, I covered the front with logos of popular student organizations to show my girl that there are plenty of opportunities for her to get involved once she gets to OU. It’s colorful and inviting, and the back is playful. For the parents’ mailer I wanted to highlight the beauty and openness of OU. I went with the “Home away from home” theme so that they could feel comfortable with their child going to a college that they can call a home.
If I could do this project over again, I would (hopefully) integrate some more design elements to make the mailers trendier and stand out more.
