I Shot the Serif

Games are fun. Typography is fun. The two together might just be a crime. To learn about different fonts and typefaces (yes, we learned the difference), we got to be kids again and play learning games.

Because I’m a sucker for a play on words, and puns that include song references are even more appealing to me, I shot the serif for over 15 minutes. This exercise was a great way to train the eye to pick out serif typefaces in a sea of fonts. Play this game here!

I chose to play Type Connection next. This game is a matchmaker for fonts. The problem I ran into was that I gauged the compatibility on similarities. In the game of fonts, much like in the game of love, opposites attract.

After successful completion of the first two games, I came to a dead end. I attempted the games Poster Letters and Type War. I am no movie buff, so Cars and Shrek were the only recognizable letters I found. Hoping I would be a better type buff, I moved on. If anything, this lesson taught me I need to brush up on my typefaces…and my cinematic adventures.
