If you could study in an Apple Store — why wouldn’t you?
First impressions die hard. So when a space conveys full-force professionalism, a calm and inviting ambiance and a dash of whimsy, I’m typically hooked. The Center for the Creation of Economic Wealth’s glistening new office at the University of Oklahoma’s research campus commanded respect and immediately felt like home — a golden welcome.
Expansive glass surfaces, flocks of whiteboards and original artwork herald each new visitor as if to trumpet: “Welcome to the most innovative day of your life.” Admittedly, the description does conjure up images of an academic Apple Store.
Sidestepping still unpacked boxes during the recent move-in, I gaped at the new facilities. Of course, the boldly colored walls, generous group meeting spaces and strikingly spotless kitchen serve as wallpaper for the ambitious students and faculty occupying the space. Bold swirls of outrageous color envelop a wall-size painting of the Seed Sower — the office’s glow makes everything appear larger than life, (especially big ideas.)
Trendy interior design can only get you so far – but inevitably, the locations people leverage to work and live help shape the tone and rhythm of our lives. Stark. Unassuming. Well-lit. Cozy. Every interior design choice makes a statement about the people who call it home.
I’m excited to challenge myself and grow alongside an intimidatingly capable team of fellow CCEW interns this semester. If the bold, creative, professional space offers foreshadowing of the coming weeks, I’m positive this will be a hustle to remember.
