In the Beginning
Jacobson Hall, the visitor center, is arguably the most important building on campus for many reasons. Most students begin their OU journey at Jacobson Hall, but “The Jake” is where I truly knew I was home. As a freshman, OU was a big and scary place. I had trouble finding my niche and close group of friends right away. My first semester was rough and classes were about all I had. Second semester I really hit my stride and branched out with new faces and groups on campus. Realizing what OU truly had to offer only meant one thing, I had to use my passion to show others what OU is all about and continue the legacy that was set before me.
The spring of my freshman year I began training to become a tour guide and student recruiter for high school students. I made connections with the students visiting and more importantly the other guides and recruiters in the building. The Jake felt like home more than anything at OU.
I have continued to work in Jacobson Hall during all of my time at OU and I can barely put into words what that building means to me. My time in Jacobson has consisted of lunch parties, golf cart rides and more memories than I could imagine. It holds smiles, tears and lots of tired feet (from walking backwards, of course).
Jacobson Hall holds more memories than I could have ever imagined.
