It’s Me, Marcus Gonzalez
People can answer in a variety of ways when asked “Who are you?” Ask me on a Saturday or Sunday and I am the biggest Sooner and Cowboys fan this side of the Red River. Want to know who I am on a Friday night hanging out with friends and I’ll happily answer I am the biggest gaming nerd there is. I am a bicyclist, WWE fan, runner and plenty more but above all I am a Christian. We live in a time where there are plenty of things that express who we are but I always take time to remember the man upstairs.
Each day I try to make the world better than the one before it. I believe that volunteering, thinking green and taking action are key values that will transform our communities. We must be willing to give time to help out the less fortunate. I believe a society is measured not by how we treat our rich and popular, but how we treat our poor and less fortunate. I believe that we must make daily changes in how we live in order for our environment to thrive. Finally, I believe that everyone has the ability to change anything as long as they are willing to ‘take action’. Society has become complacent with politics, working and with their community. If we want change, we must take action to become the change makers.
I am happy to be a student in my last year of school and plan on graduating this spring with a degree in Public Relations. My career path at OU took a sharp turn from being an Oral Hygienist to what it is now. Thinking about who I am, my beliefs and my passions I am glad that I made the change. Working for what you believe in and what you are good at is how you will be successful, which is why I am looking forward to working for a video game publisher or developer.
One of my favorite places, to study at least, is in the west-side library in Norman. The atmosphere is casual, the people are nice, and there is plenty of space. I am sure I will regret telling everyone this is the best place to study, but at least I only have two more semesters. All ‘school’ work and no play is not the best way to attend college. Hanging out at Hayday on the top floor or biking around town are some of my favorite spots in Norman, if we consider biking a place.
Design is one of the most important aspects of everything around us. I constantly think about how drink bottles are shaped, how cars are designed or how websites are displayed. Everything is strategically placed and created for a reason. A great design can sell an audience on a specific product, campaign or service. In contrast a bad one can bankrupt a company, halt a political career or frustrate customers. I cannot wait to learn more about how to design and create, so that I have the ability to persuade, influence and change people’s motives.
