Keep On Keepin On
I cannot believe my first project for PR Publications is completely finished! The last two weeks I have been researching my organization and their competitors, designing my first business card and letterhead drafts, and editing my final project based on my peer’s evaluations, comments and critiques. At first I was super stressed when I realized that the first project due date was coming up! I cannot believe that time has flown by and our first project is almost due. That sort of scared me at first. Although I still am not 100% confident with my Photoshop and InDesign skills, I really am happy and pleased with how my final project turned out. I am really proud of myself for how far I have come within the past few weeks with both of these design programs.
I would definitely consider pitching my design for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital because I think that the core values of the organization are displayed through the vibrant colors of my design and that would be a hit for the hospital. The vibrant pink colors are very inviting, and I think the hospital needs to emphasize this more.
I do feel as if I am gaining confidence with the tools that we have been asked to use in PR Publications. After watching countless tutorial videos and studying my notes more, I have started to really understand the basics of Photoshop and InDesign. I am far more confident now than I have ever been with these programs, especially since we started out in boot camp.
If I were to start this first project over, I would have really focused on learning more tricks and tips with InDesign. I would have watched more online tutorials on creating business cards and letterheads because they really are helpful and can teach you the material efficiently. Not only would it have made the InDesign process easier, it would have been fun to explore new effects as well as exciting by trying out new tools that I have not discovered.
For future students taking on the first big project, do not be scared or intimidated to jump into these different programs! Make sure to review the videos from boot camp because they are so beneficial. It is such a great feeling after you have completed your work and get to look back at all the things that you learned through the process. Always remember… keep on, keepin on!
