Learning is fun when you’re playing games
In my publications class, we were required to play three out of five typography games that we were given. To be honest when we first got the assignment I wasn’t sure if it would be that enjoyable, but the majority of them were pretty decent! I’ll tell you about my three favorites.
Poster Letters
This is a game where we were given a single letter from a movie-poster title and were supposed to guess what movie it was from. I knew ten total! I guessed Cars, West Side Story, A Bugs Life, Shrek, i-Robot, Wall-E, 101 Dalmatians, Sex and the City, Spider-man 3 and Titanic. I’m surprised I knew so many, but I was also surprised that I knew so little. There were certain things about these specific movies that clearly showed the title. For example, the Shrek lettering is very well known.
Shoot the Serif
The highest score I achieved was 160 on the medium level. I found this game to be more difficult than I thought it should have been. I’m not sure if I was staring at the screen for too long, or the glare off the lettering started to distract me, but I couldn’t seem to find any more letters in the given time frame.
Type Connection
This game was adorable to say the least. You got to make a love match between two different fonts. My winning couple were opposites that found an attraction. ITC Century and Futura are a juxtaposition of ornament and sleek lines. They look great together!
