Letterhead-ache

This week we were asked to focus on designing a letterhead consistent in style and design with the business cards we created last week.

This week, I was a little less doe-eyed going in because I had a better, more realistic expectation of the work that lay (lie?) ahead. Despite the title of this post–I can’t resist a good pun–I felt much more comfortable finding my way around InDesign. Certainly a promising sign!

I’m not finished with my design yet, but I am pleased with how it is coming along. Feedback from my peers has helped me focus my design a little more and pick which specific design elements I really want to focus on, instead of trying to do everything all at once.

I’m glad that I’m already feeling more comfortable with the programs. Now I can focus more on the actual design aspect rather than clicking back and forth to tutorials trying to figure out which tool does what.

We also began reading excerpts from our class text, Designing for Emotion. I really liked what the author had to say about not being afraid to bring personality to your work. I think there’s this assumption that professional work has to have an uppity, academic tone, when that’s simply not true. The brands I interact with the most on social media are the ones that don’t just push product. They tweet like an individual would, responding to current events, making jokes, and talking about the same things their publics are talking about. I look forward to reading what more the author has to say!
