Letterhead and Business Card Final Reflection Post
I started my design project of the business card and letterhead aiming at the philanthropy side of Delta Gamma, Service for Sight. Both of my first drafts reflect this, but in the final project I decided to focus on just Delta Gamma. I decided it was just two confusing for people outside of the “Delta Gamma world” where Service for Sight means nothing. At first I was a little disappointed in myself because abandoning my original idea felt like failure, but after looking over the final project I feel very proud of what I have done. I think the final product has a much clearer representation and could still be aimed for Service for Sight by the user.
If I started over I would focus on just Delta Gamma from the very beginning. If I had more time to mull over everything I feel like I could have fine tuned my final design even more. I actually saw some examples of Delta Gamma business cards after I had finished mine and they were very similar to mine so that made me feel very proud of the work I had done.
If I were to give advice to future students I would say trust your gut and don’t be afraid to play around. There’s nothing wrong with trying and failing. Failing just tells you what doesn’t work and gives you the opportunity to try something new. I also had a problem with feeling comfortable using the software at first, and to that I would say just play around with it. The more you use it the more comfortable you are. The undo option is a beautiful thing if you mess something up or press the wrong button. Overall I am excited to see what else I will create in this class and look forward to challenging my (still very limited) indesign and photoshop skills.
