My Take on Chapter One
After reading Chapter 1 in Designing for Emotion we were asked to answer the following:
What do you agree with?
I agree with the points made about human design and the power of personal connections made with users. I am from Austin, TX which is and always has been a hub for individual creativity. I definitely agree that people are more inclined to visit a website or buy a product that has obviously been produced by hand with thought put into it.
What do you disagree with?
I disagree with emotion and personality being as big of a factor as the author explains it to be. I definitely think the usability and reliability are the most important aspect of a web design. The author does explain that these are necessary before the emotion and personality part come into play but I think he down plays the importance. I think the usability of a website is the sole factor I return to most of the sites I visit to online shop, read the news and catch up on social media. The personality part can come in other ways; for instance the book explains the interactions with customer and the company’s ways of handling the situation. This I agree with and that is where I feel the brand’s personality is necessary.
