Newsletter: Amazon.com

For the newsletter assignment, I was asked to create a piece for a fortune 500 company. I debated doing a company like Coca Cola because I know they do a lot of people-related work and corporate social responsibility and I thought I could get great images and stories with that human factor.

Eventually, however, I decided to go for Amazon.com, which is by no means less known. What drew me to Amazon, besides being one of my favorite websites anyway, was designing for stories that be more about the product than people and still finding a way to build emotion around it.

Here is the dummy layout I designed,

The First Page

Middle Content (2 &3)

Newsletter: Amazon.com

Last Page

Newsletter: Amazon.com

One of the requirements was to have at least four complete stories, which I have gathered from the press releases on the official websites. The only thing that may be worrisome right now is that one of the stories may not have enough space and the challenge will be to cut the content while still letting it make sense. I want to take this challenge because it feels like something I would end up doing very often if I were in charge of a newsletter.

I also liked that this layout will allow me to add images that may make that emotional connection work better. Even if it’s a story about 1-day shipping.
