Newsletter Assignment

For this assignment we were instructed to pick a company that was a part of Forbes, and that we were passionate or interested in. At first I was going to do Capital One, a company who my mom works for, or Altria, a company that my aunt has found great success in— but then I realized I was missing an important part of the assignment: do something you are interested in. So, I decided to change my direction, and do the Walt Disney Company. The reason why I chose this was because I am passionate about all things kids. Walt Disney is, obviously, a huge part of children’s lives and they also work with multiple nonprofits that affect children’s health (Make a Wish, for example). Disney is something that all kids love growing up, and I love looking at their website so it was an easy choice. I was kind of annoyed when I was looking at the Forbes list simply because all of the companies on the website seemed so mundane.

I’m actually excited to finish this project because we will be utilizing a lot of design techniques that we have learned thus far to complete it. In Design, as you know, is not my favorite design program, however I think I’m getting semi-used to it. I don’t have much to show just because I changed my company a few days ago, but I’m confident I can have something in the end that I’m proud of. I do still get frustrated when I don’t remember how to do something and have to search the internet for it, but it’s helping me learn at the same time. I think I’m reacting this way because with this project I want my newsletter to look real, and not like an amateur did it, but it’s not coming out like that yet. The dummy helps because you can have everything spaced out and ready to go, so when you do add your own words and content you don’t have to go back and constantly change things.

Here is a glimpse of what I have started:
