Newsletter Final Reflection Post

Whole Foods Newsletter

For this week and last, my PR publications class was asked to pick a Fortune 500 company and write a newsletter for them.

So this week has been a bit of a struggle week for me. My laptop decided to give out on me Monday, thus I lost the inDesign version of my rough draft and was left only with the pdf (thats what I get for not backing up my documents or saving them on a flash drive). So I have been sitting in Gaylord for about three hours now redoing everything.

I am doing a newsletter for Whole Foods Market, and honestly I wasn’t that happy with my wrist draft. Although it may not reflect it, I spent hours rearranging thins and trying putting different things in and I was never really satisfied. I even switched to Disney for a while before realizing that was too daunting a task for me. Something about Disney is just very intimidating.

After slaving for what felt like forever today though, I am actually happier with my second draft. I am sure I could have worked out a few of the kinks if it weren’t actually a first draft (please have mercy on my grade), but it looks pretty good.

I pulled a lot of the articles from Whole Foods blogs and either re wrote them or modified them to fit the space I had. I found this interesting because I am currently in PR Writing and my professor always talks about how journalists will literally just cut off your article if you write too much for the space the have, so I feel like I have a better understanding of that now.

Having to start from scratch twice was terrifying and designing an entire newsletter seems like a lot, but I think this assignment only proved how comfortable I have become with inDesign this semester. It is nice to know the tools that once seemed so scary are now usable and familiar.
