Newsletter – Final Reflections
This previous week in PR Pubs we took our Dummy Layout of our company’s newsletter and crafted it for a particular audience. When I was creating my Dummy Layout, I had already pulled from articles on CVS’s NewsRoom page. I tried to find articles that showed CVS’s community involvement, but one article in particular did not fit.
I wanted to create a newsletter that had articles about CVS helping out the community or being active in bringing about change. I believe that this newsletter would be a resource for external publics looking into how our company is more about social responsibility than the bottom line. However, I also think that this is a great newsletter for internal publics that are engaged in volunteering through our company. Employees feel better when they know they are making a difference and that their company strives to make change in their communities.
As I mentioned before, I wanted this newsletter to focus on the community involvement and investment that CVS has to its stakeholders. If you did not see my Dummy Layout, then I will let you know that the fist article I had was all about CVS reaching 1,000 Minute Clinics nationwide. While great news for the company and for investors more likely, this article did little to portray the volunteer spirit that CVS has. So going back this week I chose an article that highlights CVS’s commitment to helping out the community, by awarding 50 non-profits $100,000.
Thinking about graphics for my articles, I chose to keep it rather simple and straightforward. For me, I flip through magazines or newsletters and what I end up remembering are these short graphics that just stick out in my head. For example, my third page has a graphic of a cigarette being extinguished with it saying “Let’s Quit Together”. Whether my audience reads this article or not, my hope is that this graphic will be powerful enough to convey my company’s stance on tobacco products.
Overall, I really enjoyed creating this newsletter. This project had a lot to do with the technical aspect of InDeign and being able to create a document that looks appealing to the audience, beings the company’s personality and tailoring your message to a stakeholder. Really this assignment captured a lot of what we have been learning over the last couple of weeks. It is not enough to have colors and logos of the company. It is important to get across your company’s personality and character, while still thinking about the stakeholder your addressing.
