Newspaper Markup

For the Newspaper Markup assignment this week, we were asked to find a newspaper and locate all of the elements that we learned about this week, which includes:

-Masthead

-Headlines

-Deck

-Subhead

-Bylines

-Body text

-Photo cutline

-Pull quote

-Dividers

-Jump Line

I found that when first looking at each of the element’s names, I knew what some were right away. Once I watched the video about typesetting on InDesign, I realized that I knew what some of the other elements were as well, I was just not familiar with their names. Then there were some elements that I was not familiar with at all. This assignment helped me pick out the details of a newspaper and know the exact names for each element that goes into a front page of a newspaper. I found that the newspaper that I selected to use for this assignment was greatly lacking when it came to finding a subhead. I marked what I believe may pass as a subhead, though this newspaper didn’t give me much to work with when it came to their subheads.
