Newspaper Markup
Here is my very purple “Newspaper Markup” assignment! I know what you’re probably thinking… “Why does this blonde girl have a prescription to the New York Times?” To sum things up, it’s required for my PR Research course. However, my roommates think they’re living with a 40 year-old man who drinks coffee and reads the news every day (is it bad that I’m 20 and already in that habit?) Oh well.
Anyways, I found it very convenient to have this article at my home for this particular assignment. Before marking it all up in a crazy purple marker, I had a little moment of panic. I initially looked at the list of terms we were assigned to mark up and felt very confident in knowing exactly where everything was… until I actually tried to place them.
I found the video provided by Adam to be extremely helpful in this exercise because although I did believe we were simply marking up common knowledge terms, it turns out I was wrong. I actually learned more than I expected to. Also, I feel like I’m going to become that crazy person who looks at someone reading a newspaper and feels obligated to say, “That line right there is the jump line!!” or “Ugh that newspaper doesn’t have subtitles…?”
At least I have a better understanding in the specific elements of a newsletter or newspaper and I’m excited to see where this knowledge takes me.
