Newspaper Markup

For part of this weeks assignments, we analyzed newspapers to try to identify all of the elements that usually make up a newsletter or newspaper. I chose the sports page from USA Today Weekend and highlighted the parts. I could only find nine out of the ten main parts on this page; it is lacking subheads.

This was an interesting way to learn these elements. It’s funny how you don’t realize the logic behind things until you look a little deeper, like in this analysis. Each of the elements has a specific purpose and they help to guide our eyes from one thing to the next and between the parts.
