Organization Analyzation

For my PR publications class, I have been assigned to use my newly acquired design skills to create a business card for a company/organization that I already have a connection to or am interested in working for in the future. But before I start designing the business card, I needed to conduct some research about the organization that I chose.

I should preface my choice of organization by explaining a little more about what I would like to do after I graduate. In addition to my PR degree, I am also obtaining my minor in nonprofit management. I am very interested in working in the nonprofit sector, which despite the name can actually be very profitable. However, I am not the type of person to base the decision to work somewhere off of a number. Of course money is nice, but at the end of the day, I would rather be happy with the work that I am doing. It has always been important to me to have a job where I felt like I was using my skills to make a real difference in the world. To me, working for a nonprofit is a great way to give back to the community and make a living at the same time.

That being said, I am most interested in working for a nonprofit that serves the homeless/low income communities or one that provides education and job training to these communities. (It would be great to work for one that does it all!) For this reason, I chose to design for the City Rescue Mission in Oklahoma City. I have volunteered there a few times, so I am moderately familiar with the type of people they serve and the services they provide. For those who may not know, the City Rescue Mission is a Christian faith-based nonprofit that provides housing, food, rehabilitation services, child care, and job training to the homeless community of Oklahoma City. The organization values Christian ideals of service and love.

Many people do not realize the abundance of homeless people in the OKC area, but there are quite a few. As a result, there are several other organizations in the metro area that provide services similar to those provided by the City Rescue Mission. Some of the organizations that come to mind include the Salvation Army and Jesus House.

I look forward to creating content for this organization over the next couple of weeks because I would really like to work here or somewhere similar after I graduate.
