Please Do Not Touch the Art
My favorite place on campus by far is the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art.
I have always been interested in art and for a brief time I thought about majoring in art history. Surprisingly, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum has an amazing collection, representing a variety of artistic styles and periods. This collection isn’t one that I would expect a university like our own to host.
What’s more is that the museum is home to pieces by some incredibly well known artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro, Georgia O’Keefe, Andy Warhol, and Fernando Botero.
The Fred Jones, like any other art museum, has temporary exhibits, which are always interesting. The exhibit that just left the museum, for example, focused on abstract expressionism and the American Southwest. The museum also always has some sort of exhibition of student artwork, as it should.
For these reasons and many more, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is my favorite place on campus. Admission is free, so if you have an appreciation for art or even have a few minutes in between classes, I highly recommend visiting the museum.
