PR PUBS: Chapter 3 Reflection
One thing that stuck out to me in this chapter that I agreed with, was the idea that designing needs to be done with personality in mind. The area where it is related to how people get along with each other made a lot of sense. You might not be able to please everyone with your design but you may be able to target and relate to certain personalities. The area that focused on creating a design persona for a website stuck out to me because it made me think of popular youtubers. Whenever you visit a popular page and look at the comments there is bound to be a couple of negative comments. Most of these people power through, understanding that their material is not for everyone. Nevertheless, it is their brand and what they present to people.
One thing that surprised me, was when the chapter said to be aware of clashing personalities in the industry because it can lead to hard relations later on. I was surprised that the book’s advice for that type of situation was to steer clear of those people. I am not sure of the right thing to do in that situation but some people might look at that as a challenge to still be able to please a client whom they might not think like. As someone who has watched many episodes of Fixer Upper lately that is not a reason to shy away from a client. If the interior designer on the show dropped every client that did not conform to her new rustic style she would not have her own television show. I think sometimes it may pay off to step outside what your design personality may be for the benefit of another.
