PR Pubs: Designing for Emotion (Chapter 2)

This week we were assigned the task of reading chapter 2 in Designing for Emotion and then finding something in the text that we agreed with and something we disagreed with.

Personally, I agreed with the text when it was stated that designing is for humans and humanity. I think that understanding popular culture and current trends is important to reach out to the human interest. To include humanistic values, such as beauty and aesthetics, in our designs is highly valuable to the wow-factor and eye-catching appeal of the product and will yield a more positive reaction. Every human has emotions, or “emotes” as the chapter states. Designs should cater to, and encourage, these emotions and cause the viewer to feel something more than just basic like or dislike; there should be an experience. As an Art History minor, this idea is very important to me. Art through time has always appealed to the current trends and human feelings, from the flash and romance of Baroque art to the simplistic, clean lines of De Stijl.

I actually really enjoy this book and find myself nodding along with each point made, so I did not find anything to disagree with. I would be lying if I wrote something down in this section.
