PR Pubs: Reflection
1. What were you asked to do?
I was asked to complete a business card and letterhead in InDesign for an organization of my choosing.
2. How did you respond to what you were asked to do?
I was very excited to do this project, because I knew that it would allow me to be creative and would be something I would definitely enjoy. I was also somewhat nervous because InDesign is a daunting program to me and I knew I had a lot to learn before I could create a quality product I could be proud of.
3. How did react to what you actually did?
I am very proud of my business card and letter head! I went through a really hard time in the beginning with balancing time and learning the program so I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to get it done on time or get a result that would appease me, but I suffered many sleepless nights and work-filled days to get myself back on track and have a result that I really am excited about. I am also feeling confident in my new-found InDesign skills and am so happy that I will have this skill set for the rest of my life that I can use and build upon.
4. Now go one level deeper: Why do you think your reaction was what it was?
I believe my reaction is what it is because I put so much work into this project. Having to catch up on three other work-intensive and demanding classes after falling behind, working almost 40 hours a week for my internship, and having to move out of my apartment was extremely hard to balance out, but even though I had to make major sacrifices, I was able to complete the project and that hard-work makes me really appreciate that I didn’t give up.
Supplemental questions:
Any long term goals for this design? Do you have any interest in actually pitching this to the organization?
I definitely would like to get this business card printed, although I would have to change the title, because I am definitely not the VP of Community Relations (yet!). I used this title with my own name as inspiration, as that is what I would like to do with the rest of my life.
Do you or do you not feel yourself becoming more confident with the tools you are being asked to used?
I definitely feel I am learning the ins and outs of Photoshop and InDesign! It was hard to learn at first, but now that I’ve created the business card and the letterhead using both of the programs, I am learning the ropes and definitely getting much better.
Is there anything you would do differently if you were to start over?
Do you have any recommendations for future students doing this project?
If I could do anything differently, I would have started moving out of my apartment much sooner so that I wouldn’t fall behind in all of my classes and could have given myself more time to not be so stressed out and sleep deprived. I would definitely recommend to future students to allow themselves plenty of time to allow their brains to explore examples of different designs and their own ideas to cultivate to create something professional and unique.
