PR Writing: Blog Case Study

The blog I have chosen is the official blog of the Oklahoma City Thunder, in keeping with my organization. This blog is written by multiple people within Thunder Corporate, including Karina Henderson of HR and Erica George of Public and Media Relations. This blog is very casual with a fun, upbeat tone. It not only discusses the team, but also the happenings at corporate and different fundraisers and events going on through the organization. The posts vary in length but for the most part they are a comfortable reading length that shouldn’t take longer than five to 10 minutes.

I did not find any weaknesses in this blog, except for the lack of technical basketball writing, such as statistics and game results. Now I believe the tone of this blog is more what the team is up to outside the court than in, but this could detract the audience who wants a more technical read. However, I like this aspect of the blog and find it more entertaining this way. I learned from this blog that you CAN be fun, casual, and personal in a professional way and I would love to add that flavor in to my own blog. The Thunder blog is also updated decently frequently, with about a week or two between most posts.
