PR WRITING: Chapter 12 Response
Takeaway 1: Op-ed articles: This topic was new to me. However, it opened up a new perspective for me. The way the textbook describes it is as a longer version of a letter where you can go into more detail. I think that is an important tool because whenever I compose a usual email/ letter I try to ensure that I am getting to the point directly.
Takeaway 2: Public Relations Advertising: It’s an interesting thought that advertising can be immensely important in the PR world. However, it can come in handy when you have a client that is willing to pay and wants to ensure a particular message is delivered to their intended audience.
Takeaway 3: The Think Before you Speak initiative that is suggested later in the chapter is an interesting use of advertisements in PR. it was interesting to see the use of celebrities and the use of creativity for the still life ad. The use of those elements to me is creative but if it were aimed at me would also be successful.
This chapter made me realize that even though I’ve heard it before, PR professionals do a little bit of everything.
The different methods of advocacy writing presented in this chapter are all helpful for my goals now and in my professional life. They are new ideas that are being introduced to me at a perfect time to ensure I can become familiar with them.
