PR Writing Industry

The area in which I would like to focus on this semester is entertainment publicity, more specifically literature publicity. The industry’s public would be all audiences that take interest in the authors an agency represents and fans of competitor authors. The stakeholders I can think of would be any agency representing the author. I.e. the publishers, managers, and the authors themselves. Literary publicists must communicate to the public and fans what the author is working on and why they should support the author’s work. These days it seems as though the most prominent challenges these companies have it what is the best way to communicate with the public. With social media and technology rapidly changing, it makes it imperative that all interested parties keep up with the latest trends. Not only do literary publicists tasked with keeping up they must also communicate in a manner that is effective and efficient to the target audience.

Several agencies who deal with this field are Julia Drake Public Relations, Rock star PR and Literary Consulting, and lastly The Knight agency. These agencies seem to use many tactics in order communicate with their intended publics. They all have website in which they have various and vast amounts of information regarding their companies and clients. Social media is used, mostly Pinterest Facebook and twitter. In addition, newsletters in which interested parties could subscribe to be sent emails with information seem to be a trend as well. I look forward to delving further into this field and learning more about the focus this semester.
