PR Writing: Press Release Advice
What I found to be a running theme in the articles that I had read was that there was a call to modernization of the press release. The articles read all discussed adding videos, audio, high resolution photos, etc. to make a press release more integrated and engaging. Also, there was a theme among the three that journalists are busy people, pressed for time. Doing whatever it takes to make a press release cohesive, concise, and minimal, while still providing all the necessary information, is absolutely vital.
I found it interesting that there are huge websites and sources dedicated to distributing and hosting press releases. It is also interesting to know that there is a process of updating the press release, instead of just letting it die out. Again, journalists are strapped for time, so any tool, such as a press release, to help them make their deadlines is helpful and will be maintained. I will consciously attempt to write future press releases for this class as if they truly will be read by a journalist. I will work to lessen the words, compact the ideas, and use only information that is necessary to the release at hand. I will also try to come up with ideas that will draw the reader in and attract them with multimedia that enhances the message I am trying to convey.
