PR WRITING: Word Choice Exercise

“Today I would just like to say: I’m really sorry about Fred. *Bows head in acceptance of your reasonable ire*” – J.K. Rowling

I think J.K. Rowling apologizing to her fans is important. Personally, as someone who loves to read, it is hard to see a beloved character die. The effort I feel is very nice and probably appreciated by fans. However, I feel as though the tone of the language sound cold. She also never states that she killed him off. The use of the word “Today” eludes to the fact that the apology was made on the anniversary of the character’s death. That element I think makes the post more sympathetic, heartfelt and warm.
