PUBLIC RELATIONS WRITING: Chapter 7 Response
Takeaway 1: The first takeaway I have from this chapter is from the very first page. The examples of Hillary Clinton and David Beckham are interesting in contrast to public relations work. It was a realization that basically you are driving the media and new about your company. Therefore, what gets reported about it is entirely from your mouth or what you have said or written.
Takeaway 2: The next takeaway I found was something that I thought was pretty important. It was the bullets that helped determine what and how you could get your company in the news. By way of using the methods of, localizing, prominence, timeliness, human interest, and the strange and extraordinary. Those bullets basically lay out ways in which you can ensure your news is newsworthy to journalists. It seems like that would be a key concept in the future because otherwise you may be consistently unsuccessful. I think that takeaway is most useful for my professional goals.
Takeaway 3: The last takeaway is about public relations photos. I never thought about how important or much of an impact a good photo can make. Seeing as public relations and this class can often be focused on the writing, the importance of photography can really be overlooked or forgotten. However, I realize that a photo can make all the difference not only in understanding and having a visual but it can also draw a reader in. This takeaway, to me is important for my goals today and for the future. This section in the chapter made me realize how important photography is and that it can be just as useful as the news itself.
