Reflection
Woo hoo! I made it through bootcamp… Well, kind of. In lesson 1.3 I was asked to complete assignments using Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and a newspaper.
I recreated the textual portion of the front page of a newspaper article by using Adobe InDesign. I have created similar layouts to this one in the past by using Microsoft Word, but using Adobe InDesign would have made the process much easier.
After I learned to identify the specific elements used within a newspaper article, I picked up a newspaper on campus to analyze. Although, I was unable to locate a subhead on the front page, I found examples on other pages within The Oklahoma Daily. These two assignments presented me with a new insight to newspaper writing. There is a great amount of detail present that newspaper writers and editors pay attention that is far more than what I expected.
As for the Adobe Photoshop workshop assignment, I was unable to connect Adobe Bridge to Adobe Photoshop. I tried to work around the inconvenience, but since I am a newbie in the Mac and Adobe world I found it was too difficult to try to navigate between Adobe Bridge and Adobe Photoshop while trying to follow along with Lynda.com. The tutorial on Lynda.com was useful in explaining the many different capabilities of Adobe Photoshop. Once I have the opportunity to figure out how to view the “mini bridge” within Adobe Photoshop, I will follow up this post with my experience.
When I saw our assignments used Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop I was eager, yet scared to begin boot camp. My limited knowledge of computer software intimidates me to confidently produce quality work. While my uncertainty drives me to engage in the material I am presented with, I learn by exploring the software and learning from my mistakes.
After all, it’s all about the process.
