Reflection
This week we were asked to create a business card for a company we have an interest in. Before actually constructing the business card, we were asked to perform several research methods. First, we had to research the company we chose to find out its mission statement and core values. Second, we were asked to research a competing company and create a Pinterest board that highlighted different campaigns, advertisements, and logos of the competing company. After researching the competing company, we had to come up with a communication strategy that would make our company stand out from the competition which involved creating a inspiration and mood Pinterest board. After all of this research was done, it was our job to construct a business card that would effectively showcase the uniqueness of the company along with the important information.
When I first examined what we were asked to do for the assignment this week I was quite overwhelmed with all the research that had to be done before actually constructing the business card. I thought that the business card would be so time consuming, the research would interfere with the necessary time to work on the business card. Though I was overwhelmed at first, I found the research very helpful when it came time to actually constructing the business card. It gave me the opportunity to come up with a plan for constructing the business card instead of just making it up as I went along.
After I had completed the research and business card, I was pleasantly surprised at how well the business card actually turned out. I was also surprised that I was able to execute the plan I had for the business card in InDesign. I think I was so surprised because I’m still learning how to navigate InDesign. Some of the things I wanted in the business card according to my plan I didn’t actually know how to do in InDesign. However, with the help of video tutorials, I was able to create a business card that was very close to what I had envisioned in my plan. Though the business card still needs a little work, I believe this is a great start.
