Reflection

For this assignment I was asked to do research on a company of my choice. I decided to choose my mother’s dental practice. For her company I created several Pinterest boards dedicated to the mood I wanted her print work to focus on, an inspiration board where I looked at other dentist’s campaigns and picked out what elements I liked and a competitive analysis where I analyzed local competitors print and media work.

My response to all of these tasks was to first think about what I wanted to people to think about the company. For me, I knew I wanted to emphasize the fact that it is a family dentistry that also offers oral surgery and other specialized features. I also knew that I wanted to make it fun to reflect the atmosphere within the practice. Therefore my response to this was to create a simple design with fun colors. The colors on my business card are used to attract attention to the card and the simple layout of it is great for easy comprehension of the information. 

My reaction to the final product was a mixture of relief and excitement. While I had to start the project over several times, mostly because I took on much more than I can handle, I am still very pleased with how the final product turned out. The simple tooth on the purple background is the back of the card and the white background with the purple and green writing is the front. I wanted to make these business cards, more useful than just providing information so I included a section, “Your next time to smile” where the receptionist can write your next appointment down for you. This is a way for the cards to be used for more than one thing.  I think my reaction was excitement and relief for this project because you put so much time and work into your design that you can’t help but be proud of what you have accomplished. I have done some print work before this and it is so cool to actually get a tangible copy of your work and know that tons of people will get to use it and see it. Not everyone will like the aesthetic of your card, but as long are proud of it and have created something that the company likes, you have a job well done. I think excitement should be everyones emotion when they finish a product, not just because its done (and thank goodness it is!!) but because getting to see your progression from nothing to something is a great feat in itself. Therefore I aim to always be excited when I finish a product and looking back at the card I have just created, you can bet I am.
