Reflection

This week our class was asked to watch hours of video, a newspaper markup and typesetting assignment. This week was challenging because we were learning so much at once but I was grateful to have Lynda.com, Dr. Croom and our online class to refer to for help.

I was at first excited to jump in to the course work and it seemed simple, but as I followed along with the Lynda videos and did the Typesetting assignment, I realized that design is NOT a walk in the park.

When I did the newspaper markup I LOVED IT. I felt confident, it was straight forward and easy to follow along. The typesetting assignment… not so much. I was a little overwhelmed by the lines and buttons and for the first time I felt “alone” working on my assignment. I remembered the video Dr.Croom had posted, I closely evaluated the instructions and referred to my classmates for help. After doing so, I was much more confidant and now I feel like I can tackle the next assignment!

I think I reacted the way I did to these assignments because I was being stretched. I was working in a world unknown and it was, plainly put, different. I recognized quickly though, that sometimes to build muscle, you need to have some growing pains.
