Reflection

This week in my Public Relations Publications course, I was asked to give feedback to my learning circle, essentially commenting on each of the members business cards. I was then asked to comment on a fellow student’s blog post and finally create the rough draft of my letterhead that matches my business card.

I was excited for the learning circle feedback section mainly because I enjoyed seeing what my other classmates had accomplished! I was amazed at their work and it was neat to see the different organizations each of us have chosen for this assignment. I also enjoyed commenting on a fellow student’s blog because it makes the class more personal when you are able to have contact with students. I was also excited to get started on my letterhead (I’m just full of excitement this week, well… pretty much always!). I finally feel like I understand InDesign more so getting started on the letterhead wasn’t quite as intimidating as the business card was.

My reaction to the letterhead I actually created was one of satisfaction, but one of eagerness at the same time. I say this because I still have so many ideas floating around in my head and there are minor things I want to fix but can’t quite figure out yet and I’m eager to continue making drafts on the letterhead, as well as the business card. I had a vision in my mind, and that ended up changing as I got started designing (that did not surprise me since I’m a very indecisive person in general).

I think my reaction was what it was because I always have such high expectations with myself, so for me to be completely satisfied with something right away is nearly impossibly but I had to tell myself “it’s okay if it’s not 100% perfect this time”. The thing is, I know I can improve this with more time, and I feel like I’m sitting on the edge of my seat, like I’m really onto something but I can’t quite figure out entirely what that is yet.

I have previously used Canva for the Mary’s Meals Facebook publications, and it is very useful on certain templates and placing photos on top of each other. However, I’ve always had struggles saving my images. I accidentally saved everything on one page in Canva for Mary’s Meals once and now I can’t ever get back into the document to edit the words and that has been an extremely downhill battle for me.

My design process and design thinking always changes based on technology I am using. I realize I can do something with InDesign and I’m like, “Hey! How awesome would that look there?” or, “Okay I can’t quite figure this out right now so this will do for now until I can make it better later.” Sometimes I make sacrifices, other times I find myself competing things I never thought possible.

So here is the letterhead I have poured my heart and soul in to (okay maybe not completely yet but it will get there, I promise!). I decided to do an image on the bottom to tie into my business card, as well as the color and Mary’s Meals classic blue at the top! Hope you enjoy!
