REFLECTION
- What were you asked to do? For our project we were asked to pick an organization of our choice and then create a business card and letterhead that represented the tone/values of the organization. During this process we had to research the organization and its competitors in order to accurately represent it. Over the last couple of weeks we analyzed other students business cards and blog post. After analyzing other student’s projects, we were able to give positive critiques and gain new perspectives/ideas of what business cards and letterheads could look like. During the process, we have been making small changes to our personal business cards and letterheads in order to make it the best it can be!
- How did you respond to what you were asked to do? In order to complete my project, I set aside a few hours a week to work on my business card and letterhead. At first I wasn’t sure that I was going to like my project outcome. I kept rearranging texts and adding new pictures until I was finally pleased with my designs.
- How did react to what you actually did? I was really excited when I saw the final outcome of both my business card and letterhead! I had never worked with InDesign before so I thought my first project was a major success! Although I thought they were both pretty simple designs, I think they reflect the organization perfectly!
For my final draft of my business card, I took the comments I received and edited the spacing of the text on the front. I removed the colon after my name and made the spacing more clear/readable. The comments liked the color contrast, the font and the picture on the back so I kept those the same. I was very pleased with my final outcome!
For my final draft of my letterhead, I made the information in the right corner bigger and bolder. I also changed the banner on the bottom to add more contrast and color to the letterhead. I think these simple additions made it more clear and attention-grabbing for the reader.
- Now go one level deeper: Why do you think your reaction was what it was? I think that I was really excited because I could see Relay For Life using a business card or letterhead like the one I created. I also think completing your first project is always a great feeling and you should always walk away proud of your accomplishments. It was cool to show my love for this organization through something so simple such as a business card. Overall, I really enjoyed this project/learning process!
Supplemental questions:
- Any long term goals for this design? Do you have any interest in actually pitching this to the organization? I am on the Relay For Life Executive Committee this year so I am interested in pitching it to the Executive Chair. I think he could use the business card design in order to get his name out to local companies for event donations.
- Do you or do you not feel yourself becoming more confident with the tools you are being asked to used? I feel like I am getting more confident using these tools. Although I feel like I need some more practice, I feel much better about them now then I did at the beginning of this semester!
- Is there anything you would do differently if you were to start over? I don’t think I would do anything differently if I started over. The only thing I can think of is making the purple a little brighter on the business card. Overall, I am very satisfied with my outcome.
- Do you have any recommendations for future students doing this project? I would recommend setting aside time to work on it so that you can do your best! I would also suggest picking an organization that you are passionate about because it makes it a lot more enjoyable!
